Verdant Brand Story — Chapter 1

brand story

We didn’t start this brand in an office.

We grew up in a small factory that made woven picnic baskets. My mom worked there, and we lived in the factory dorms when we were kids. So bamboo strips, rattan, and half-finished baskets were just part of everyday life for us.

We didn’t think much of it back then. It was just normal.

As time went on, the market changed. Plastic products became cheaper and faster to make, and demand for handmade baskets slowly dropped. The factory eventually closed.

After that, everyone moved on to different jobs. Life went in different directions.

In 2021, after my mom and the other aunties retired, they started meeting again. They decided to work together again and go back to weaving.

For them, it was also a way to do something familiar again. Something they knew well.

We joined them too. This time, we take care of the parts outside of weaving — product structure, metal fittings, website, and social media.

Now the workshop is small. There are five aunties who do the weaving, and three of us handling everything else. Sometimes their children also come by and help when they have time.

We don’t only make traditional baskets anymore.

We try new materials and turn the craft into something that fits everyday life today.

But the core is still the same:

Everything starts with hands.
